In the Style of Monet

Morning on the Seine

Morning on the Seine

These works by Monet were painted in the mid 1890’s.  He took his flat bottomed boat along the river Epte which joins the Seine at Giverny.  Perhaps he didn’t want to leave home becuase of family illness.

Compositionally, the works are all the same and would have been worked up later in the studio but all the light effects of early dawn would ha\ve been noted at first hand in the boat.

It must have been a logistical nightmare!  Hence, perhaps, the simplicity of the composition, – like overlapping theatre flats.
