GENUINE FAKES – ‘THE GREATEST ART FRAUD OF THE 20TH CENTURY’

Green Eye Production Academy has teamed up with John Myatt in its newest film venture

Based very loosely on John Myatt’s true life story, the film GENUINE FAKES begins in 1985 and ends ten years later.

John Blake lives in a dilapidated farmhouse in a sleepy Staffordshire village with his young wife and two infant children.

As an art teacher John leads a serene and idyllic family way of life. The only hint of the exciting existence he once led is that, some years earlier as a songwriter while still living in London, he co-wrote a UK number one single.

Then John’s wife leaves him for another man, and he finds himself juggling with two children under two, a job, and life… all badly.

His friend Dave asks him to paint a picture for his mother in the style of her favourite painter, a present for her birthday, simply to help out with the bills – and gives John the idea to place an advert in a magazine to try to make some money by painting artworks ‘in the style of’ modern masters.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Michael Vaughan-Taylor, a charming, charismatic and clever conman, answers John’s ad, and two years later John Blake finds himself embroiled in a major art fraud involving major museums and auction houses around the world.
